Automatic HTTPS

Traditionally, implementing HTTPS on a website or redirect required quite a lot of time and effort. Website owners needed to own an SSL/TLS certificate and manually implement it. Aside from that, from a search engine optimization perspective, they have to ensure that all of the outdated HTTP links are rewritten to the HTTPS version. Otherwise, users may experience errors, often causing web browsers to display warnings such as the image below. In some cases, it can even block the user from visiting the website entirely.

This is where we can help. redirect.pizza includes an automated HTTPS service that enables you to implement SSL/TLS certificates in a couple of clicks. After implementation, the service keeps everything up to date, so you'll never have to think about it again. Both the HTTP and HTTPS versions of your domain will work out of the box, which is useful if you've got existing redirects via a domain provider such as GoDaddy or Namecheap.

How redirect.pizza ensures your website is always running on HTTPS

To make sure your website is always secure, redirect.pizza automatically installs an SSL certificate on your domain. This means that redirects with "http://" and "https://" are both working. On top of this, we make sure the SSL ciphers are always up-to-date. Only the most secure TLS versions are supported and we'll automatically renew the certificate before it expires.

We're built on top of the SSL giants of Let's Encrypt and ZeroSSL and can't offer redirect.pizza without them. Why use 2 issuers? Redundancy! When one of those isn't responding or is rate limited, we can automatically fall back on the second one. By implementing OCSP stapling, we ensure that even if one of those issuers revokes a certificate, a new certificate is automatically requested and installed.

We're proud to have an A+ rating from Qualys SSL Labs for our HTTPS redirects in all the different plans, even Free!

SSL redirection: make sure all users land on the HTTPS version of your website

You can make sure that all visitors to your site land on the secure (HTTPS) version by implementing SSL redirection. It is one of the core features of redirect.pizza. It essentially ensures that all users are redirected to an HTTPS version, even when the SSL certificate is expired. FAQ

HTTPS, which stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, is the secure version of HTTP. It governs how information is exchanged between web servers and web browsers. The secure version (HTTPS) uses encryption - through an SSL certificate - to make sure that the data sent is secure and cannot be intercepted by others. In other words, it prevents attackers and scammers from performing malicious actions.

While it's not strictly required, it's highly recommended to include an HTTP Strict Transport Security response header (abbreviated HSTS) when running your website on HTTPS. The HSTS response header informs browsers that your site should only be accessed via HTTPS. This enhances the security and credibility of your site, which can indirectly influence its search engine performance.

No. redirect.pizza automatically provisions and renews SSL certificates for every domain you add, on all plans including Free. Certificates are issued through Let's Encrypt and ZeroSSL with dual-issuer redundancy. You don't need to buy, install, or manage any certificates yourself.

Yes. redirect.pizza is a DNS-based redirect service, so you don't need a web server, hosting account, or any server-side configuration. Point your DNS to redirect.pizza, and both HTTP and HTTPS traffic is handled automatically. This works with any domain registrar including GoDaddy, Namecheap, and Cloudflare.

SSL certificates are typically issued within minutes after your DNS records are verified. redirect.pizza checks for DNS propagation automatically. Once the domain resolves to our servers, the certificate is requested, validated, and installed without any action on your part.

Yes. redirect.pizza monitors certificate expiration dates and automatically renews certificates before they expire. If a certificate is revoked by the issuer, OCSP stapling ensures a new certificate is requested and installed immediately. Your redirects continue to work without interruption.
