Namecheap provides basic support for forwarding your domain. Unfortunately it's missing important features like HTTPS & Analytics.
When the redirect is setup at Namecheap, no SSL certificate is installed on the domain. This results in SSL errors when visiting the domain via HTTPS.
redirect.pizza automatically installs & manages a SSL certificate and makes sure it never expires. Let's get started!
Step 1: Create a redirect.pizza account
Get started today by creating an account: https://redirect.pizza/register.
Step 2: Add your domain to redirect.pizza
Add your domain you wish to redirect. For our example, we have a domain with Namecheap 'redirect-pizza-example-nc.xyz'. Add the domain to the 'Source URL' field. We recommend adding www & the apex (non-www).
You see the DNS 'checking' as the detected & required values are different.
Step 3: Navigate to Namecheap
To allow redirecting via redirect.pizza, we need to make a one-time DNS change at Namecheap.
Login with your Namecheap credentials and from your Dashboard click on 'Manage' for the domain you want to redirect.
From this screen click on 'Advanced DNS'
Step 4: Changing the DNS
We are now ready to change the DNS.
Optional step: Remove existing URL Redirect Records
If you have already setup a URL Redirect Record, please make sure to remove these records first.
Click on 'Add new record'.
Select the Type 'CNAME Record and enter '@' as Host with 'edge.redirect.pizza.' as Value.
With other DNS providers, the '@' must be a A type. Namecheap allows to define a CNAME on the '@' record, which will flatten the record automatically.
Then, press 'Add new record' again and select the 'CNAME Record' and enter 'www' as Host with 'edge.redirect.pizza.' as Value. Your screen should look something like this.
When all is set, click on 'Save all changes'
Step 4: DNS verification in redirect.pizza
The DNS changes have been made! This takes some time before the internet picks up these changes. In most cases, it should be done within a few hours, depending on the TTL set on those records.
redirect.pizza will automatically keep checking the DNS records. If it's detected to be correct, a SSL certificate will be automatically requested & installed.
Closing
That's it! You've succesfully setup redirect.pizza with Namecheap. The domain now has full HTTPS support and is redirecting via redirect.pizza.
